A Floor Plan That Holds a Desk, a Door, and an Eight-Hour Day
You’ve seen the listing photos: a laptop staged on a kitchen island, captioned “work from home ready.” You need something more specific than that — a room where the door closes, the desk fits without blocking the closet, and the monitor doesn’t share a wall with the dishwasher.

Why this matters
What it costs to do nothing
Sign for a “one-bedroom with study” without reading the plan and you can end up with an alcove — three walls, no door, open to the living room — hosting every call you take for the next twelve months. The fix is a desk in the bedroom, which means your workday ends where your sleep starts, eight feet apart. Breaking the lease to correct it usually costs a reletting fee — often around one month’s rent, set by the written lease — plus the move itself. Reading the floor plan before you apply costs nothing.

Why clients choose us for home-office floor plan search
- We read dimensions, not room names. A 9-by-10 den with a door beats a 12-by-14 “flex space” that opens onto the kitchen, and the plan drawing tells us which one you’re actually getting.
- We ask where the outlets and the data jack sit. A den wired on one wall decides your desk position before you do — better to know before the couch is in the truck.
- We flag the plans where “second bedroom” means a real window and a real closet, because a room you can also furnish for a guest is a room that keeps its value at renewal.
- We match the plan to your budget first. Greater San Antonio has true two-bedroom stock at prices where other metros sell studios — the search space is wider here than you may assume.
The practical answer
It works like this: one call about your budget, your call load, and what your equipment actually needs — one monitor or three, a standing desk, a camera that points at a wall or a window. We pull plans from our tracker of 40+ San Antonio communities, discard the ones where the “office” is a hallway with ambitions, and send a short list with the plan drawings attached, usually within a day. You tour only the survivors. The service costs you $0 — when you lease, the community pays us a referral fee out of its own marketing budget, and your rent is identical either way.

Common questions
What actually counts as a home office in a floor plan?
Our working rule: a door that closes, a footprint that takes a desk without blocking a closet or a walkway, and at least one wall where a camera can face you with light in front of it. A den qualifies. A true second bedroom qualifies. An open “flex nook” usually doesn’t, and we’ll say so rather than list it.
Do I need a two-bedroom, or is a one-bedroom with a den enough?
Depends on the workday. One person on calls behind one door — a den does the job and typically rents for less than a full second bedroom. Two people working from home, or work gear plus regular guests, and the second bedroom earns its rent. We price both routes so you see the actual gap before deciding.
Can you find plans that fit a specific desk or equipment setup?
Yes — tell us the measurements. A 72-inch desk with a monitor arm needs a specific stretch of unbroken wall, and plan drawings show us which units have it. We’ve ruled out plans over a wall-mounted air handler exactly where the desk had to go. That’s the level the search runs at.
What does this cost me?
Nothing, and here’s the mechanism: apartment communities pay locators a referral fee for a signed lease, out of the marketing budget they spend anyway. The rent quoted to you is the same with us or without us. If a community ever quoted different rent because a locator was involved, we’d want to know about it — and it would come off our list.
